Garden Is Growing

I hated to pay for it, but I forked over about $3 for a couple tomatoes that we needed for our holiday weekend burgers.  I put them on my burger, but they were kind of bland.  There wasn’t much I could do though, as my lazy-man’s garden was planted just last month.

My potted deck garden continues to grow.  I have 4 healthy tomato plants and 2 different types of pepper plants.  It is time to cage the tomato plants so they have something to grow on.

My next concern: will any pest bugs come to ruin my plants?  I hope not, but I have read that I need to encourage predators that feed on insect pests.  Predators like spiders, praying mantis, ladybugs, non poisonous snakes, toads, and bats.  I could handle all of the above except that snake part!  Non poisonous or not, I am not inviting any snakes to my deck for an insect dinner.

Ladybugs and praying mantis eggs are sold by many garden suppliers; both of these insects prey on a variety of common pests.
