Watering Tip$
Read on MyNC.com/Durham that my water rates are going up in Durham, again. They raised rates, it seems, just a little over a year and a half ago. I guess we aren’t using enough water, so the utility needs to bring in more money. Conservation can get expensive!
We are getting into the time of the year that without widespread rain, we will need to water.
About 1″ of water per week is a rule of thumb for lawns and plants. But the cost of using that much water can add up. Most people know about not accidentally watering the driveway etc.; but one thing I see often is, folks watering during the middle of the day. This is a big mistake for watering lawns. A lot of the water will evaporate and be wasted.
The best time to water a lawn is before dawn in the early morning. In the summer if you water in the evening and it is humid, disease can form on the grass, so it is best to do it early in the morning.
Up with birds…I wonder, if by watering the ground in the morning, can the birds get to the worms easier?!
