It’s Greek To Me

Moussaka, patistio, souvlaki, just some of the food I got to taste and not pronounce at the St. Barbara’s Annual Greek Festival for Durham and Chapel Hill.

I usually make it a family tradition to cook Sunday dinner for my family, but this was an exception.  It was rainy and cool, so instead of grilling, we went Greeking.  The festival is held each year at East Chapel Hill High School and it’s a culinary delight.  My favorite was the Mezzé Plate  here is a picture and on it you will find dolmades, spanakopita, tiropita, meatballs, kalamata olives, feta cheese & tzatziki sauce, served with pita bread.  I also love the souvlaki sandwiches.  That pita bread is so good.

Here’s a video of all the food available, and yes my mouth was watering.  I haven’t mentioned the Greek Pasteries and desserts but they were all homemade and delicious.  I am glad I could be Greek for a day, but kind of glad I don’t do it too often, or else I’d be loosening my belt buckle…a lot.

I absolutely love Greek festivals. Went to one this weekend and there was a vendor from Simply Greek Foods (http://simplygreekfoods.com/). They were selling Greek seasonings and rubs for everything from lamb, souvlaki and gyros!!! I can’t wait to try their seasoning on my homemade gyros.
