Beach Front Houses Gone
I remember interviewing a distraught lady back in 2000 when she learned that her house that was on Topsail beach wouldn’t be rebuilt. This is because the tide now came up to where her property was. What I learned was that, under state law, the beach is public property, so a private house can’t be built on it.
I felt sorry for her plight, but this is one reason I would never purchase beach front property. You could lose everything when the ocean moves, which it always has and always will.
Well, now the same thing is happening in Texas after Ike destroyed beach front houses and the beach is now on the property of owners. Guess what; the property will become part of the public beach.
