1/4 Of A Million Miles

I just achieved a milestone that probably won’t win me a new car, but I am pretty proud of it.

15 years ago this month I picked up my brand new Toyota Camry station wagon with 7 miles on it.  I wanted a family vehicle that could lug people but also haul things.  After extensive research I picked the Camry.  My wife did most of the driving for the first 7 years, but in 2000 when she got the new car, I took over driving the Camry.

camryat250k.jpgWell now, after 15 years of ownership, I just passed 250,000 miles!  Except for a little oil seepage, the car still hums along I-40, going to a from work.

While some people think it has become a ”beater”, including my daughter who was 1 year old when we bought it.  I still love driving it, I think I have gotten my money’s worth.  I have been pressured to sell it or even give it away, but I am going to hang on a little longer.  How many miles would I have to drive to get Toyota to give me a new car in appreciation?

My Camry has 196,000 on it - I have had it 10 years!
I have also gotten some grief in the past years for not getting a newer car, but when I mention that I haven’t had a car payment in 5 years…they get quiet! It has been a great car.

But I think I’ll be trading her in pretty soon. Bring on the car payment.
