Gas prices and renting a car.
Just spent some driving up in the Northeast where gas prices are still over $4 a gallon in New York and Connecticut.
I rented a car and got the pre-paid tank option where you can return the car on fumes if you want. I paid $4.35 a gallon for a full tank of gas in New York City with this option. I didn’t want to worry about finding a gas station when returning the car and trying to catch a flight. If the tank wasn’t full I would have paid $8 a gallon for them to fill it up.
I drove almost 5oo miles and had to add about 5 gallons of gas so I wouldn’t run out. I paid $4.19 in Connecticut for that gas.
Was it a good deal? Not really because when I drove to the car rental return at JFK, I rode right past a gas station with gas at $4.07 a gallon. I could have filled up there and not paid for the full tank option at $4.35. I also had about 1 or 2 gallons of gas left in the tank when I returned it.
You can check the going rate of gas at this website.
I am glad that in North Carolina gas is a lot cheaper than in New York and Connecticut. Let’s hope it still can go down some more.
