Hurricane Forecasts Not Worth It?

Today another updated hurricane forecast will be issued by the dean of seasonal hurricane forecasting, Colorado State University.  Dr. Gray is the big name associated with hurricane forecasting, even though he has technically retired.

I have always hated these forecasts because the media hypes them and they are really not worth the paper they are printed on.  Here is a link to a fascinating article about the usefulness of the forecasts.  The article confirms my feelings about these forecasts.  I have always said, it doesn’t matter how many storms develop in a year, it only matters will one hit our state.  No one can forecast that.  So this afternoon when the new forecast comes out, I’ll be outside enjoying our last warm comfortable day before we get into the hot and humid days of summer.
