Saving Gas By Driving Slower

I have read that for every 5 mph over 60 you drive; you burn more fuel that is the equivalent of adding 15 to 20 cents per gallon of gas.

So on my way home from Raleigh to Durham down I-40 yesterday, I decided to drive 60 mph.   It was interesting to try to stay at a constant speed of 60 while riding in the right lane and dealing with merging traffic.  Otherwise I just felt like a slow poke going 5 mph under the limit.

I should do this everyday for a week and see if my mileage improves, and by how much.  Except for the merging issue, I guess slowing down can be relaxing also; but I always wonder what other people think when they whiz by me.
