It’s Greek To Me and Delicious
Went to the Greek festival in Chapel Hill yesterday for a feast. St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church of Durham and Chapel Hill put on the event. No plates were broken but the food put on the plates was wonderful.
My only problem with Greek food is I can’t pronounce most of the names. I can surely eat it though. I started with a Greek salad with feta cheese and those Greek olives. Then I tried some spanakopita (spinach and cheese in a pastry) and also some dolmades (rice and beef wrapped in grape leaves). After that it was lemon chicken, Greek green beans and rice.
Then it was on to dessert, it started with loukoumades (think donuts), and then finished with a unique dessert designed by Helen, a wonderful Greek lady. She saw that Baklava (one food I can pronounce) produced a lot of scraps that were delicious but couldn’t be sold as full pieces. Instead of throwing them away, she created a brand new Greek desert: “Baklava Sundae.” It had ice cream, baklava, chocolate syrup, a cookie, and cherry on top. It was amazing and here is a picture before I ate it up.
After eating all that food one way to relax is to dance. There were young Greek folk dancers that kept us entertained.
I was told that about 3,500 people came to eat over the weekend. As of this writing, I for one, still haven’t eaten again, going on 14 hours and I am still full!
Opa!

It only cost a dollar! Now of course the food will cost you but it is worth it. This event happens every year in May in Chapel Hill. I know there is a Greek festival in Raleigh another time of the year but I am not sure.
Er, this lady didn’t invent baklava sundae. it’s been a staple in south louisiana greek families for years!
